Psalmist King David prayed this prayer above when he realized that he had an unclean heart and was guilty of being an adulterer and murderer. If you noticed he didn't ask God for just anything to cause his salvation to be restored, he asked Him for a clean heart, restored joy and a willing spirit that could only be sustained by God alone.
What an amazing prayer of serenity when we realize too what's really in our hearts that is unpleasant to our God and we repent, not because of the sin only that’s eating our souls away inside but ultimately because we broke the heart of our God and our Lord and we’ve grieved the Holy Spirit.
We can at any given time just ask the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and see if there is any wickedness in our hearts that saddened Him and that keep us away from His presence. It is necessary that our joy and relationship with God be restored so that the movements of the Holy Spirit will continue to flow in our lives.
If you have been feeling a little uneasy lately, short-fused, on edge, creeping and tiptoeing around God as if you don't belong to Him due to unrepented sin, anger, lies, guilt, shame, and condemnation, or just sensing you want to live out your latter days in joy starting today pray the same prayer as David from The Message Bible below from Psalm 51:7-15 and witness the Holy Spirit restoring your joy.
There's nothing that compares to standing before God with a clean heart. Jesus provided the way of escape for us, so there are no more excuses to remain unsettled in your heart.
Your Prayer for Restored Joy:
Soak me in your laundry, and I’ll come out clean, scrub me, and I’ll have a snow-white life. Tune me in to foot-tapping songs, set these once-broken bones to dancing. Don’t look too close for blemishes, give me a clean bill of health. God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life. Don’t throw me out with the trash, or fail to breathe holiness in me. Bring me back from gray exile, put a fresh wind in my sails! Give me a job teaching rebels your ways so the lost can find their way home. Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God, and I’ll sing anthems to your life-giving ways. Unbutton my lips, dear God; and I’ll let loose with your praise.
Decree It: I declare today that the joy of my salvation is restored! I receive it by faith. I am free, forgiven and loved by my Heavenly Father. Thank you, Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. I love you.
