From start to finish it is the work of the Holy Spirit within you that helps you to be energetic in your life of salvation. You can't become the divine characteristics of God without being sensitive to His presence and engaging your will. Paul is addressing the Philippians, one of the early Christian communities that he founded. He was reminding them while he was away to continue to rejoice together and be a light in the world and even double their efforts of doing good.
Like the early Believers who followed the Word of God, you too can live in responsive obedience to God by doing what they did from the beginning. Paul is saying that we also should consider the following things, if you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if His love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do Jesus a favor and demonstrate His energy working in you.
Agree with others, love others, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand to others.
Decree It: Because of God's energy working in me I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
