The S.O.A.P. Method

Scripture. Observation. Application. Prayer.

Grab your journal and let’s get started!

Scripture: Read the passage for the day and choose one verse that speaks to you from your Bible reading. Write or rewrite the verse, this will get the verse into your heart and mind better.

Observation: What do you see? To stay within the original context of scripture, ask questions to support your observations such as: Who was the passage written about? What happened? When did it take place? Where did this happen? Why is this passage being shared?

Application: Faith without an action is ineffective. Consider how you will apply today’s verse. Perhaps God is encouraging you to take a next step, revealing a new promise He wants you to claim, or pointing out an area of your life that needs correcting. Write how you will respond to Him. If you are not sure, just ask the Holy Spirit! He loves to help and support your decision to follow Jesus.

Prayer: Prayer is a two way conversation! Listen to what God has to say to your heart and situation. Respond to Him by writing a simple prayer to what He is revealing to you. That’s it!

Great job today, you have made a great use of your time by getting to know Jesus personally, grow your faith in God, and now it is time to show your love for Him by doing what He has told you.

“If you love me, show it by doing what I've told you.”
